We did an in-depth evaluation of the SAS Business Class experience, based on a recent flight from Boston to Copenhagen. Here is what we think about their business class service on board this A321 narrow-body aircraft.

In this review, we’ll navigate through the intricacies of service, seat comfort, and in-flight dining, providing you with a detailed exploration of the highs and lows that define flying in style with SAS Business Class.

Lounge Assess for SAS at Boston Logan

If you have SAS Plus or SAS Business tickets, you can use special lounges. SAS operates from Terminal E at Boston’s Logan Airport, but there’s no SAS lounge there. Instead, you can go to the Lufthansa lounge on Level 4 near the elevator and stairs, across from gate E11.

During my trip, I used my Diner’s Club access and went to the Air France Lounge. If you want to know more about the Air France Lounge at Logan Airport, you can read about it here.

Business Class Configuration on A321 Jets

The SAS A321LR will carry 157 passengers in three classes and SAS Business will feature 22 fully flat seat beds. The Business Class cabins have 7 rows – in an alternating 2-1-2 seating pattern. This means that depending on the row, you’ll either have two seats next to each other or a single seat by itself.

This configuration allows for more space and privacy, especially for those in the single seats. Odd seat numbers have two seats while even seat numbers have a single seat, but you are a bit away from the window.

SAS has chosen the Thompson Vantage seat for its A321LR business-class cabin, with 22 seats spread across seven rows. Each seat is upholstered in a light gray and “SAS blue” palette, providing a calming and sophisticated aesthetic.

    Extensive Beverage Selections

One of the highlights of the flight was the extensive beverage selection. Catering to a variety of tastes, the drink menu was impressive and diverse. I went with a Carlsberg beer which was served with sea salt cashew nuts. Drinks are unlimited in business class, and they are usually provided prior to the main meal.

Entertainment & Movies on SAS Business Class

SAS Business Class elevates the travel experience with a state-of-the-art entertainment console. Offering a diverse array of the latest movies, passengers can enjoy an immersive cinematic experience throughout the flight.

The console provides live flight information, keeping you informed about your journey’s progress. From entertainment to practical updates, SAS Business Class seamlessly integrates technology to enhance the in-flight experience.

    SAS Headphones

SAS supplies passengers with medium-grade over-the-ear headphones. I didn’t try them because I prefer my high-end Sony noise-canceling headphones. I use these regardless of the flight class. These headphones have been a game-changer for me, preventing headaches on flights exceeding three hours. And increasing the odds of me falling asleep.

With outstanding noise-canceling capabilities, the sound quality is excellent, delivering crisp music and deep bass. They connect seamlessly to your phone via Bluetooth. There’s also a wired option for connecting to airplane entertainment systems. You can find the model I use by following this link.

Menu Walkthrough for Dinner and Breakfast

Take a look at the menu offerings for the two meals they serve on this flight. The main meal is dinner, so the options are more extensive. The food choices are distinctively Scandinavian. Breakfast is a more standard continental one with meats, breads, and coffee/beverage.

Our SAS Business Class Dinner Experience

The dinner service started on a high note with a carefully curated selection of appetizers, including a refreshing salad and enticing options of salmon and duck. The main course offered a range of four diverse dishes. I had the seared chicken served with romesco sauce and it was delicious. The chicken was well-cooked, tender and had a nice flavor from the sauce, it was a highlight of the dining experience on SAS business class.

Dessert options were equally appealing, and my choice—the chocolate caramel miso tart with pistachio crumble—didn’t disappoint. I only wish it was a bit bigger as I certainly had room for more.

    SAS Business Class Seat Comfort

The seat offered excellent comfort in various positions. However, when switched to the lie-flat mode, a few issues surfaced. One of the cushions was slightly uneven, and the leg space felt cramped, especially for taller passengers (I am 6′ for reference). Turning over in this mode was somewhat challenging, but understandable given we are on a narrow body plane.

    Breakfast on SAS Business Class

On this eight-hour flight, you have approximately four hours of potential sleep when the cabin lights are dimmed. About an hour and a half before landing, breakfast is served for those who pre-requested it. During the dinner service, passengers were asked if they wanted breakfast. Recognizing that some prefer uninterrupted rest and the chance to gain an extra hour of sleep.

The breakfast service provided a satisfying assortment of yogurt, granola, a variety of cold meats, and a warm croissant. This was perfectly complemented by the essential morning cup of coffee. Plane coffee is usually average but sufficient to get you woken up for the trek through immigration and to your hotel.

Overall Evaluation of SAS Business Class

Overall, SAS Business Class provided a commendable service, with a few areas of improvement, particularly in the seat comfort during the lie-flat mode. The flight attendants were professional, but their service lacked the warmth and enthusiasm often seen in their Asian counterparts. But compared to US/European peers they were what you would expect.

    Conclusions

SAS Business Class on the A321 offers a balanced mix of comfort and culinary delights. Prospective passengers should consider their personal priorities when evaluating this review to choose their ideal flight experience.

Given the short duration of the flight, it may not be ideal for genuine rest and sleep, especially for those on US time. However, this is not a shortcoming on SAS’s part. One positive aspect is that the flight arrives in Copenhagen at 6 am local time, providing passengers with the entire day upon arrival.

Information From SAS Airlines on Business Class Service

SAS offers different travel classes onboard. In SAS Business, you can enjoy the best service imaginable and the highest level of comfort in a massage seat that easily converts into a comfortable fully flat bed.

Travelers in SAS Business can enjoy free Wi-Fi onboard. No matter what travel class, coffee and tea are complimentary on SAS flights.

Passengers flying SAS Business Class enjoy a hassle-free airport experience with benefits such as dedicated check-in and bag-drop counters, fast-track security, lounge access and priority boarding. In Copenhagen, the airline even offers a private fast-track for premium passengers, separate from the one provided by the airport.

SAS Business Class Review: 3.5/5 – Luxury with Space to Improve

In the skies with SAS Business Class on the A321, the journey is marked by a commendable blend of comfort, culinary excellence, and a few areas for improvement. The well-curated drink selection and delightful dinner choices create a pleasant dining experience. However, the lie-flat mode’s comfort falls short for taller passengers, highlighting a notable drawback.

Despite a few seat-related challenges, the morning meal impresses, featuring a well-balanced assortment. The service, while satisfactory, lacks the vibrancy and warmth often associated with Asian carriers.

In summary, SAS Business Class on the A321 earns a solid 3.5 stars out of 5. It offers a positive flying experience, and with some refinements in specific aspects, it holds the potential to soar even higher in passenger satisfaction.
